Drilling into Summary Views
When creating a Report that includes a Summary View, you can drill into the summary values to see the individual records that make up those totals. You will have the option to drill into the Column itself or drill into the selected column with a criteria applied to only see information from the selected Row.
Summary Views are ideal for analyzing data at a high level, for example, totals, counts, or trends over time. Drilling allows you to move from this high‑level overview into the underlying detail, without needing to rebuild or edit the report. Hence, Summary Views are a great way of achieving high-level understanding of trends or overall performance.
In the example above, selecting the drill arrow for Jane Fretwell in April 2026 – you have the options to either Drill into ‘April 2026’ or to Drill into ‘Jane Fretwell’ and ‘April 2026’. Selecting either option creates a new window showing the Details tab with the appropriate Filters applied.
Why can’t I drill into my report?
If you cannot see the drill arrow, this is usually because the Details View that the report is based on is not visible.
To enable drilling:
- Open the report in Edit mode.
- Go to the Report tab.
- Check that the Visibility option is enabled for the underlying View.
Note
You may need to check with the Report owner before checking this box, as this view may not be visible for a reason.
